As for the column idea, I was thinking of "Professional socialite or
desperate attention seeker?" where I chronicle my journey through the
Auckland social scene in a noble quest to find a new friend every week.
E.g:

Talk to people on public transport / on the street
Talk to retail / café staff
Gatecrash a corporate event
Gatecrash a random party down the road
Stalk down random events on Facebook
Intrude on a couple having dinner
Knock on neighbours' doors
Greet international arrivals at the airport
Talk to the elderly at a resthome
Text a random number
Ring someone up from the white pages, or write them a letter
Stalk a radio / tv personality until they agree to have coffee
Ask out a local politician (Helen??)
Ask a lecturer out
Go to sports / church / movies / volunteer / the markets etc (getting
desperate now)

Sounds like an excellent idea - perhaps we could call it 'Add Me', with
the goal of acquiring 1000 friends on Facebook? Somehow that makes it
sound all the more cringe-inducing, with you telemarketing your Facebook
page to random strangers over the phone/at church/on talkback radio.
Especially if you have to explain what Facebook is to them...

Haha I like the name and the goal sounds good too. Might have to start next week.

Looking for more friends

It's not that I don't like my friends or anything, actually I love them all, but it would be cool to have more. In this world of war and terror, wouldn't it be nice to be friends with everybody? Become friends with everyone in the world? I think of myself as a pretty friendly person, and I'm sure there are lots of friendly people out there, but how can I become friends with them? I started this blog to chronicle my journey through the social aspects of my life, particularly the interesting ways I meet new people.

I'll also be writing a column to summarise my findings weekly. It's called "Add Me" and will be published in the Unitec student magazine, In Unison.
